I am You. You are I.

Guesthouse is a short project done in collaboration with Sankofa Organization and The Nonviolence Institute, Providence (RI). The idea was to create an artwork advocating the use of non-violence as an effective tool of change, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s beloved community forming the base infrastructure, inspired by his second principle, non-violence seeks to win friendship and understanding. This is a short version of the final project. I interviewed and documented around 25 people, all of  different race, ethnicity and background. The video documentation focuses on their gestures and body language during the conversation. The artwork is presented in black and white, and the faces of the interviewees are not disclosed to keep their identities anonymous. My hope is to encourage viewers to see their first global identity as humans. We have more in common than we think and this very common-ground (in this case gestures) can be our strength.
