MusePort

A week long intensive workshop, Museport was a week of making art inspired from the architecture, landscape and history of Newport. We visited various locations within a 2 mile radius of the Newport Art Museum each day to learn and explore something about the city. Within the short span of five days, we visited the Touro Park, Redwood Library, Trinity Church, the beach and other surrounding areas.
The art activities included,
-
outdoor sketching at Touro Park, personal interpretation of the old stone mill and creating a 3D artwork of the same
-
collage work with gelatin paper inspired from stain glass paintings at the Trinity church
-
photography assignment with focus on architectural elements
-
plien air painting at the beach (finger painting/texture art)
-
gyotaku, an ancient Japanese printing technique, inspired from the history of beginning of trade between Newport and the East
