I Am.

Aesthetic Portraiture speaks about ability, about what can be done with what one has. Focused at bringing awareness and encouraging a positive attitude towards differently abled learners, this project aims to plant the seed of empathy through the arts. The concept of this performance is a being starting as a closed pod. The being is not even a part of the first frame indicating that every life is a blank canvas and we choose how to paint over it The performance progresses to movement without hands and sense of sight, but movement nonetheless. It speaks of how limited ability allows an individual to get into the deeper nuances and micro details of movement. The artist progressively gains freedom to using all body parts freely which is an attempt to create a metaphoric statement. Irrespective of our physical differences, we are ultimately all one soul, with the same power. The freeness of spirit, an act of liberation and allowing space to grow is all that is needed whether one is fully, conventionally abled or differently abled.
