Silent Conversations

This  project was conducted in the form of an art workshop with high school students at RISD's Project Open Door. The idea was to use paints, primarily a medium of visual art expression, in a three dimensional space. The students literally embodied the experience of painting. No tools were used to create this artwork. The students used their body parts including, fingers, palms, elbows, knees, back and feet in the process of art making. The focus of this project was to experience the tactile and kinesthetic emotion of art. It was interesting to observe the transition from the discomfort of painting without tools to enjoying the freedom to move in space and create a visual artwork. I offered very limited direction and let the young artists explore their personal meaning of using space to create art.
